A 1937 press photograph showing Chinese General Bai Chongxi commanding troops in Shanghai. Taken during the early stage of the Battle of Shanghai, the image records General Bai leading about 300,000 soldiers under Chiang Kai-shek’s orders to resist the Japanese invasion, symbolizing the unity of China’s rival factions in a common war effort.
picture postcard published by New Art Studio, Shanghai. A fine studio portrait showing the Guangxi warlord and prominent Nationalist military leader in half-length view, wearing a white tunic with shoulder strap. Unused, clean and well-preserved with only light toning. A scarce contemporary portrait issued during Li’s prominence in the National Revolutionary Army.
The document promotes the government's National Products Movement, encouraging domestic industrial development and the use of Chinese-made goods while resisting foreign economic dominance. Issued shortly after the Northern Expedition, it reflects the early Nationalist administration's industrial and economic reconstruction policies. A historically significant example of early Republican economic policy documentation. Age-toned paper with seal and printed signature; overall in very good condition.
depicting General Ho Ying-chin standing in full military uniform with cap and sword, taken in studio setting. Printed in sepia tone with “NOKO” mark at upper right on reverse, divided “Post Card” format. A rare early postcard portraying the prominent National Revolutionary Army general and statesman. Small part trimmed at bottom.
in full military uniform with sword, titled “Portrait of Commander He Yingqin” (軍長何應欽玉照). Printed on AZO photo paper. Scarce early portrait. Very Fine.
one wearing military uniform, the other showing Ho Ying Chin takes a salute from J. Reilly O'Sullivan, Associated Press War Correspndent.
early printed photographic portrait postcard depicting Wang Ching-wei (汪精衛), prominent revolutionary leader and politician of the Republic of China, shown in suit and tie with lapel badge. Captioned below portrait “汪精衛先生像”, published by 商務印書館印製 (Commercial Press, Ltd.), Shanghai. Printed on photographic AZO postcard stock. Scarce.
depicting Wang Jingwei (汪精衛) and senior officials during their diplomatic mission to Tokyo. (1) Wang Jingwei with Japanese and Chinese officials, including General Itagaki Seishiro and Zhou Fohai; (2) Arrival ceremony scene with Wang greeting Japanese military officers on the tarmac. Both with printed captions and commentary in Japanese along right margin, issued by Asahi Shimbun (朝日新聞社). Unused. Light toning and minor crease. Historical record of the Wang regime’s collaboration with Japan. Fine.
taken in Shanghai showing Wang Ching-wei (left) with two Japanese officers after defecting from the Nationalist government, documenting his collaboration with Japan in forming a puppet regime and his branding as a traitor by Chiang Kai-shek’s loyalists.
showing General Cheng Cheng (left), newly appointed Minister of War succeeding General Ho Ying-chin, and O.K. Yui (right), promoted from Vice Minister to Minister of Finance, succeeding Dr. H.H. Kung.
Seated from left to right are Premier Zhou En-lai, an interpreter, Mao Tse-tung, and President Nixon. The photograph vividly depicts this significant moment in U.S.-China diplomatic history.
