Japanese “Marco Polo Bridge Incident” commemorative bronze medal, 1937 (Showa 12),

depicting on obverse a Japanese infantryman advancing with rifle, and on reverse an airplane over a battle map with inscription “昭和十二年事變記念” (“Commemoration of the 1937 Incident”). Issued to mark Japan’s military campaign following the Marco Polo Bridge (Lugouqiao) Incident, which began the Second Sino-Japanese War.
