f.w. Japan New Koban 5s pair, tied by Yokohama cds., on reverse with Dowager 1st Print 1Cd. strip of 3, tied by Customs Shanghai (Jan 14) cds., along with Shanghai IJPO transit and Peking I.G. of Customs arrival cds. The "Silver Dollar" Unit postage was effective on Jan 1, 1897, in this interim period, Peking and Tientsin applying the temporary POSTAGE PAID chops, while Shanghai still using the stamps in "Candarin" unit. The 3Cd. postage on this cover was used to paid the winter overland mail service to Peking. Mizuhara "Huayou Jijin II" vol. 7 p.7.
