Depicting (from left to right) Marshal Chang Hsueh-liang, Generalissimo Chiang Kai-shek, and General Feng Yu-hsiang in Nanking, this photo was taken after the National China Congress urged unity against Japan in Manchuria, symbolizing the brief alliance of China’s three key leaders before renewed divisions.

The other captures Lord Louis Mountbatten, the newly appointed Allied Commander in the Southeast Asia Theatre, shaking hands with General Ho Ying Chin, China's Minister of War and Chief of Staff. A cross-cultural pair of Western-issued portraits of the Chinese Nationalist leader, notable for their distinct artistic and documentary styles.

According to the official Chinese Central News Agency, Col. Chiang Wei-Kuo, the adopted son of Chiang Kai-shek, had arrived in Peiping. Earlier reports had indicated that he was trapped with the army southwest of Suchow. Please view.
A 1937 press photograph showing Chinese General Bai Chongxi commanding troops in Shanghai. Taken during the early stage of the Battle of Shanghai, the image records General Bai leading about 300,000 soldiers under Chiang Kai-shek’s orders to resist the Japanese invasion, symbolizing the unity of China’s rival factions in a common war effort.
